Defintion
  • Reflection law of hyperbola.
  • Source at focus F, hyperbola will reflect or refract light to G and vise versa.
  • Hence F and G are called foci.
  • Bisector is normal and incident angle equals reflect angle.

Equation of ellipse
  • (x-h)^2/a^2 - (y-k)^2/b^2 = 1.
  • (h,k) are the center at C.
  • a is the major semi-axis on principal axis y = k.
  • f is the focal length and f = Sqr(a^2 + b^2).
  • From the diagram, find a, b, h, k, and focal length f.
  • The foci are on line y = k which is the principal axis.
