Construction
- Draw an equilateral triangle
- Draw 1st circle tangenting 3 sides
- Draw 3 cicles and each tangnets 1st circle and two sides
- Find area ratio of large circle to smaller circle
- Triangle DEF is the pedal triangle
Solution
- Let each side be 1
- Height of triangle = Sqr(3)/2
- Radius of large circle r1 = h/3 = Sqr(3)/6
- Radius of small circle r2 = (r1)/3 = Sqr(3)/18
- Ratio of area = (pi*(r1)^2)/(pi*(r2)^2)
- = (r1/r2)^2
- = (18/6)^2
- = 9
